The Tata Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and OpenAI have announced a multi-dimensional strategic partnership aimed at advancing AI-powered innovation across enterprise, consumer, and social sectors in India and worldwide.

The collaboration will focus on enabling AI-led transformation across Tata Group companies, driving industry-wide adoption of AI solutions, and establishing large-scale AI infrastructure.

TCS established HyperVault in 2025 with a vision to deliver gigawatt-scale, secure, reliable, large-scale AI-ready infrastructure for hyperscalers and AI-driven organisations.

Powered by green energy, it will offer purpose-built, liquid-cooled data centres with high rack densities and network connectivity across all key cloud regions.

The initiative is designed to position India as a global AI hub and marks a pivotal moment in the country’s ambition to become a global leader in artificial intelligence by accelerating development and adoption.

As part of the partnership, several thousand Tata Group employees will gain access to Enterprise ChatGPT to enhance productivity and innovation, while TCS will leverage OpenAI’s Codex to improve software engineering outcomes.

OpenAI and TCS will also collaborate to build industry-specific Agentic AI solutions by combining OpenAI’s advanced AI capabilities with TCS’s domain expertise and contextual industry knowledge.

In addition, the companies will pursue joint go-to-market initiatives to help enterprises in India and globally deploy, integrate, and scale AI solutions tailored to their operational needs.

A key pillar of the partnership involves developing AI infrastructure in India through a multi-year agreement between OpenAI and TCS’s HyperVault unit.

The initial phase will establish infrastructure with 100MW capacity, scalable to 1GW, to support next-generation AI workloads.

The collaboration also includes a social impact component, with the OpenAI Foundation and TCS working together to provide AI training and resources to Indian youth.

The initiative aims to equip young people with responsible AI skills, develop technology toolkits for NGOs, and improve the livelihoods of at least one million youth across the country.

The partnership underscores a broader push to build an ecosystem that accelerates AI innovation, adoption, and inclusive growth at scale.

Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, said, “India is already leading the way in AI adoption, and with its talent, ambition, and strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future. Through OpenAI for India and our partnership with the Tata Group, we’re working together to build the infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India, and in India, so that more people across the country can access and benefit from it.”

N Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons, added, “This deep collaboration between OpenAI and the Tata Group marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI. We are pleased to partner with OpenAI to create state-of-the-art AI infrastructure in India. This is a unique opportunity for OpenAI and TCS to transform industries. Together we will skill India’s youth and empower them to succeed in the AI era.”
