The Evolution Championship Series (Evo), an American annual esports event that focuses exclusively on fighting games, announced a new phase of international expansion with fresh ownership and multi-year partnerships aimed at scaling its global reach.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has sold its stake in Evo to Nodwin Gaming, backed by Sony Group Corporation.
While stepping back from ownership, SIE will remain a global sponsor of Evo through 2028, reinforcing its commitment to the fighting game community via PlayStation Tournaments and upcoming products designed for competitive players.
Whereas, Nodwin Gaming joins RTS (the shareholder) as the co-owner of Evo. The move positions Evo within Nodwin's broad portfolio of properties, strengthening its presence across international markets.
Qiddiya, a global partner since 2024, announced an investment in RTS and extended its Evo partnership through 2027. Together, these alliances are expected to fuel Evo’s vision of expanding original content and delivering more immersive live experiences.
Evo’s popularity has surged worldwide. Its flagship Las Vegas event recently drew fans and competitors from over 60 countries, covering 14 acres with brand activations from sponsors including Chipotle, AT&T, PlayStation, Red Bull, and Under Armour. Champions were crowned across 16 fighting game titles.
Akshat Rathee, co-founder and managing director, Nodwin Gaming, said, “Evo was built by a team whose authenticity and passion for the fighting game community are unmatched. We will continue SIE’s great work and honour the legacy of everyone who has made it what it is today, while opening the door for a new generation to experience the spirit of Evo.”
Stuart Saw, CEO, RTS, added, "Teaming up with Qiddiya strengthens the future of RTS and what we’re building with Evo, an event that lives up to its name by driving real transformation in the fighting game community through new opportunities, deeper connections, and meaningful growth."
Rick Thiher, general manager, Evo, said, “In recent years, Evo hosted record-setting events in the USA and Japan, and our upcoming premiere in France is already breaking European records. These latest partnerships join the ongoing support from our global and regional partners in accelerating Evo’s expansion from hosting renowned live events to serving as a nexus point for fighting game culture worldwide.”
