Tinder, Hinge and The League will share guidance on identifying scam tactics, verifying profiles and reporting cybercrime.

Match Group, the parent company of Tinder, Hinge and The League, has partnered with the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, to launch an initiative to raise awareness about romance scams in India.

Announced at the second edition of the Trust and Safety Festival in India, the campaign will provide users with guidance on recognising common scam tactics, identifying red flags and accessing official cybercrime reporting resources.

The campaign will run across Tinder, Hinge and The League’s platforms and channels, with content developed in collaboration with I4C to reflect local risks.

The guidance will cover five areas: caution around requests to move conversations off dating platforms, verifying a person’s identity, recognising suspicious investment advice, avoiding requests for money, and being alert to attempts to build trust before making financial demands.

Romance scammers may spend weeks or months building relationships before asking for money, often citing reasons such as medical expenses, visa fees, travel or repairs. The campaign will advise users against sending money, gift cards or investments to people they have only met online.

The initiative builds on Match Group’s existing trust and safety measures across its dating platforms. Tinder’s features include Face Check and Photo Verification, tools such as “Are You Sure?” and “Does This Bother You?”, and options to block, report or unmatch users. Its Share My Date feature allows users to share date plans and location information with trusted contacts.

Hinge has introduced a waitlist for some new users in India, alongside features including Face Check, a Block List during onboarding and screenshot protection. The measures are intended to support profile authenticity, give users more control over unwanted interactions and protect privacy.

Match Group’s other safety initiatives in India include Tinder’s Dating Safety Guide, developed with the Centre for Social Research and available in regional languages, and School of Swipe, which offers guidance on navigating online dating.

The company has also partnered with Yuvaa and Pink Legal on the Let’s Talk Consent online course.

Users can report cybercrime through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or by calling the 1930 cybercrime helpline.
