Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has rolled out the second brand film for the show Wheel of Fortune, featuring actor Akshay Kumar.
The films are conceptualised by Vikas Bahl and produced and directed by Good Co. The film opens with a sick, elderly uncle lying in bed. Kumar, worried about his condition, calls his friend and urgently asks him to bring Dr Suraj Kumar as soon as possible. When the doctor finally arrives, he is badly beaten and bruised. Shocked, Kumar asks him who beat him up. The doctor weakly points at Kumar’s friend. Only then does he realise the misunderstanding - the confusion between ‘Kumar’ (the doctor’s name) and ‘ko maar’ (beat him).
What we think about it: A hilarious and instantly engaging opening that grabs attention within minutes. The clever wordplay delivers a surprising comic twist. The narrative smartly links the film’s humour to the show’s theme of chance, language, and unexpected twists.
Bahl said, "The idea was to introduce the show to Indian audiences while staying true to the playfulness at its core. With Akshay Kumar as the face of the show, we could effortlessly lean into witty moments of wordplay and misinterpretations where a single word can change everything."
The film released on 2 January.
