25 years after it first premiered, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is set to return on Star Plus, marking the comeback of actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani - who played the popular character of Tulsi in the original - to acting after 17 years.

Star Plus has released the promo for the show’s reboot, featuring Irani reprising her role as the main protagonist, Tulsi Virani.

The video opens with a family dining at a restaurant when the title song of the serial plays on a TV. This sparks a discussion about the show, with the family debating on whether Smriti Irani will return to reprise her role for the serial or not.

The film then reveals Irani dressed traditionally as Tulsi, watering a tulsi plant. She then smiles, looks into the camera and says, "Zaroor aaoongi, kyunki humara 25 saalon ka rishta jo hai. Waqt aagaya hai aapse phir milne ka. (I'll definitely come because we have a relationship of 25 years. The time has come to meet you again)."

Produced by Ekta Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Telefilms, the show's original series first aired in 2000 and ran successfully for eight years becoming a household name, before going off-air in 2008. The show marked a turning point in the careers of both Kapoor and Irani.

The first episode of the show’s new season is set to air on 29 July at 10.30 pm on Star Plus.
