Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has unveiled Sony Vizha, its new Tamil general entertainment channel, which is set to launch in October 2026.

The channel marks SPNI's entry into Tamil general entertainment and will feature original fiction, global reality formats, movies and large-scale entertainment across television and digital platforms.

SPNI unveiled the channel's name and logo on Independence Day through a rendition of 'Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu' performed by children. The song is traditionally performed at the start of important occasions in Tamil Nadu.

The name Vizha, which means celebration or festival in Tamil, reflects the channel's focus on Tamil stories, talent, music, family and entertainment. Its visual identity uses yellow and electric blue, with the company associating yellow with festive colours such as turmeric and marigold, while electric blue gives the identity a contemporary look.

Sony Vizha will draw on SPNI's existing entertainment portfolio, which includes franchises such as Kaun Banega Crorepati, Indian Idol, CID and Crime Patrol, while developing programming specifically for Tamil audiences.

The company said further details of the programming slate and launch will be announced later.

Rajaraman Sundaram, chief content officer – south regional, Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “With Sony Vizha, we are taking a heartfelt step into Tamil entertainment. This is a market with a rich creative legacy, a deeply expressive language and audiences who have always embraced stories with emotion, honesty and cultural pride. We come into this space with humility, respect and a sincere desire to add something meaningful. We hope to build premium stories that feel close to home while reflecting the confidence and curiosity of a new generation of Tamil viewers - sharper, faster, funnier, and unafraid to look beyond the four walls of the home. At the same time, we want to bring these stories to life with the scale, craft and ambition that can help them travel further. Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu beautifully speaks of Tamil’s pride spreading in every direction. That sentiment inspires Sony Vizha - a celebration of Tamil culture, deeply rooted in emotion and imagined for a wider world. We reveal the name and logo today with gratitude and look forward to bringing the channel to audiences in October.”
