Nikhil Sosale, marketing and revenue head, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been arrested by the Bengaluru police.

This follows the stampede that occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy stadium on 4 June, during the team's victory celebrations. The stampede led to the loss of 11 lives.

According to media reports, Sosale, was taken into custody at Bengaluru airport, before he was scheduled to fly to Mumbai.

Three staff members of DNA Entertainment Networks, the organisers of the victory celebrations were also detained by the police.

Two officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) are reportedly absconding.

According to various news reports, the RCB management did not consult with the police before announcing the victory parade. The police denied the team permission to have a parade, which led to the team celebrating in the stadium.

Sosale has been with Diageo, the owners of RCB for the last 13 years.

RCB has also received flak for the handling of the situation post the stampede. Some team players took to social media to put out celebratory posts hours after the news of the stampede breaking out.

The team has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the 11 families of the deceased and also created a 'RCB Cares' fund to support the injured.
