Apple has rolled out a Diwali campaign, ‘Step Into the Light ’, bringing together technology, fashion and Indian textile traditions.
The campaign, conceptualised by TBWAMedia Arts Lab India, created in collaboration with contemporary fashion label Raw Mango, comprises an ad film.
Shot entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro, the film captures the festival of lights through dance, traditional craftsmanship and the visual spectacle of India's festive celebrations. Directed by Raw Mango's founder Sanjay Garg, it is set against the backdrop of Tijara Fort, a restored 19th-century royal palace in Rajasthan. Set to a folk interpretation of Anu Malik's iconic 1990s song ‘Roop Suhana Lagta Hai’, the film features performers moving through synchronised choreography that blends traditional and contemporary dance forms. It captures the transition from darkness to light, with vibrant textiles, illuminated spaces and festive settings bringing the narrative to life.
The film also features ensembles inspired by textile traditions from across the subcontinent, including Mashru, Varanasi brocades and Chanderi. Alongside the visual storytelling, it showcases the iPhone 18 Pro's camera capabilities, particularly its low-light performance and smart focus tracking, which keeps performers in focus as they move through the choreography.
What we think about it: The film makes for a visual treat, bringing together India's textile heritage, dance and festive aesthetics. What works is how Apple showcases the iPhone's camera capabilities without making the film feel like a product demo, letting the visuals and storytelling take centre stage.
Garg said, "Diwali, for me, is the biggest festival of the year. It represents a change in weather where we welcome winter in the company of people we love. The concept evolved from the idea of celebrating literal lights, like diyas, to also capture the optimistic feeling of being in the light. The phrasing 'Step into…' is a call to join the celebratory atmosphere that grips the country during the festival. Our aesthetic is a philosophy that's evolved and has an impact on everything we create. Whether it's dance, textile, handloom, architecture, what interests us is blending the historical with the contemporary. In this film, every element reflects that worldview."
The film went live on 4 November across Apple's global Instagram account and Apple India's YouTube channel.
A behind-the-scenes film featuring Garg on set, shot on the iPhone 18 Pro, was also released through Instagram Stories.
