Puma and Manchester City have announced a 'long term' extension to its ongoing partnership, which sees the former as the official kit partner. A film has been released for the announcement.
The film shows successful moments the club has seen over the past decade and a half. The voiceover states how it's more than a partnership, and it's a legacy while showing the trophies the club has won not just during its partnership with Puma.
Along with the kit partnership, Puma's subsidiary STICHD is the exclusive retail partner of Manchester City and helped expand the club’s retail footprint with the opening of City Stores in Manchester Arndale, within the ‘City Challenge’ in Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi and the four-month pop-up City Store at Rockefeller Centre, New York last summer.
What we think about it: While the film does the job of announcing the partnership, it has moments during which other brands were kit partners (albeit they have cleverly been hidden). The club's fans have been often criticised of being glory hunters and only following the club after the take over from Sheikh Mansour. If Puma wanted to use footage from times that they weren't sponsors, they probably could have used some from its history before the take over.
Arthur Hoeld, CEO, Puma, said, “Puma's partnership with Manchester City has been a great success both on and off the pitch. Trophies, a perfect stage for our performance products and commercial success were exceptional.”
Ferran Soriano, CEO, City Football Club, said, "We joined forces with Puma with the ambition to challenge ourselves and go beyond the expectations. We have achieved this and more over the last six seasons. Puma has seamlessly integrated into our organisation, and we've enjoyed many historic moments together, engaging fans globally. Today’s renewal and extension solidifies our relationship and projects it to an even brighter future.”
Puma is also partner of City Football Group clubs which consists of Mumbai City FC, Melbourne City FC, Girona, Lommel, Montevideo, Palermo, Bolivia, Bahia and ESTAC.
