The entries have come from 92 countries.

The organisers of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity have announced that they have received 20,050 award entries this year, a 25.46% decrease from last year's 26,900 entries.

This is less than half of what the festival received a decade ago.

The entries have come from 92 countries.

A third of the entries now coming from independent agencies, according to a note from the Lions team. Brands directly entered 10% of their work into the awards this year, up from 8% last year.

While the percentage has increased, the total number of entries submitted directly by brands has declined.

For this year's awards, the Cannes Lions team introduced an 'Awards Integrity' standards across all categories, as it aims to ensure entry credibility, results legitimacy while keeping judging integrity non-negotiable.

Simon Cook, CEO, Lions, said, “We have been working closely with our international community over the last year on what are considered and significant steps, and thank everyone for their support, cooperation and leadership. Together, we understand that these strengthened standards are not designed to restrict creativity, but to fortify it – ensuring breakthrough work gets the recognition it deserves, while preserving the integrity that makes the recognition meaningful and enduring.”

He added, “Our industry is constantly shifting, adapting and innovating, and 2026 feels like it will be remembered as a  transformative year for many reasons. We know from our 73-year history that the awards reflect industry disruption, but also opportunity; and we can see that through greater engagement from brand marketers and independents. Given the shifts we’re witnessing in the industry right now, coming together to navigate those, and celebrate the work that sets the standard for creativity, feels more essential than ever.”

The festival kicks off on 22 June.
