Berger Paints' Rang Bana Rahe campaign

Berger Paints India has rolled out a a new brand identity campaign, 'Rang Bana Rahe' (Colour must never fade) that attempts to shift the conversation from preserving the colour of walls to preserving the buoyant spirit that defines people.

Conceptualised by Sideways, the campaign builds on Berger's long-standing positioning around colour protection, while giving it a more emotional and human interpretation.

The film follows a symbolic clown whose colours remain vibrant despite rain, dust, heat and the everyday challenges life throws at him. As his surroundings change, his appearance, and more importantly, his spirit remain untouched, drawing a parallel with the brand's promise of long-lasting colour protection. The campaign portrays the belief that while life may test people in countless ways, it should never diminish the colour of their spirit. The new positioning extends Berger's product promise into a broader philosophy on resilience and optimism.

What we think about it: The campaign steers clear of the category's predictable product-demo route, and instead builds an emotional brand platform around positivity and the unwavering human spirit. While the connection to paint takes a moment to land with a symbolic clown serving as a metaphor that links the brand's core promise of colour protection to a universal human truth, the film helps the brand stand apart in a category often dominated by functional claims. Overall, the message feels meaningful without losing sight of what it sells.

Abhijit Roy, MD and CEO, Berger Paints India, said, "For years, Berger has been known for protecting colour through our products like Easy Clean and Anti Dustt. As we looked to the future of the brand, we asked ourselves what protecting colour truly means. We realised it isn't just about walls—it is about people and the strength to hold on to who they are through life's ups and downs. That's the spirit behind 'Rang Bana Rahe', a distinctive identity that brings our promise of preservation of colour to life in a more human and meaningful way. Just as Berger's coatings defend colour through every season, 'Rang Bana Rahe' celebrates the resilience to face life's challenges without losing the colours that define us."

Abhijit Avasthi, founder, Sideways Consulting, said, “The brief wasn’t to create another campaign about paints. It was to uncover an idea only Berger could own. Its leadership in protective coatings gave us an opportunity to make that promise deeply human. At its heart, 'Rang Bana Rahe’ is a celebration of resilience and defiant joy; the quiet determination to hold on to your colours no matter what life brings. Everything from the identity to the film flows from that single thought.”

The campaign film has been developed in multiple Indian languages and rolled out across television, digital platforms, and social media on 24 July.
