Hinge's 'That's When Ria Knew' campaign

Hinge has rolled out ‘That’s When Ria Knew’, a campaign highlighting new safety and trust features designed to help singles find meaningful relationships with greater clarity and confidence.

These revived offerings include a phased waitlist for new members, Face Check verification, Screenshot Protection and a Block List for contacts.

The campaign comprises an ad film.

The film follows Ria, who has always been told by her mother that she should find someone who can make her laugh. When she meets Sunny on Hinge, she finds exactly that. He makes her laugh effortlessly, whether they are together or apart, and the two quickly hit it off. But when Ria receives a rejection email for her dream job, she turns to Sunny and shares the disappointment with him. Instead of making a joke or trying to cheer her up, Sunny simply gives her a hug, understands how she feels and responds with maturity and empathy. In that moment, Ria realises that being understood matters just as much as being made to laugh.

The film ends with the line: “That’s when Ria knew, Hinge: Designed to be deleted.”

What we think about it: The film takes the familiar idea of finding someone who makes you laugh and adds an emotional layer by showing that real connection is also about feeling understood. It’s relatable for singles because it captures the shift from chemistry to emotional compatibility, though the new trust and safety features take a backseat to the romance and could have been highlighted prominently in the film.

Jackie Jantos, chief executive officer (she/her), Hinge, said, "Love is deeply personal to each individual, and there is no singular path to finding it. At Hinge, we want to listen and learn from singles in India, so that we can adapt our app to meet their needs. We’re excited to help more people in India find meaningful relationships in a way that feels right for their lives."
