Beyond Type 1's '#TheBeyondType' campaign.

Beyond Type 1, co-founded by Nick Jonas with Priyanka Chopra Jonas serving on its board, has rolled out its first India campaign, #TheBeyondType.

Nick, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 13, helped shape the non-profit a decade ago. Their debut India campaign brings forward real-life experiences of people with type 1 diabetes to challenge stigma, raise awareness and support grassroots organisations working in high-need communities.

The campaign’s ad film spotlights everyday lives of people thriving with type 1 diabetes, capturing personal stories that show the condition doesn’t define them. From a triathlete and a young karate champion to a pastry chef, designer, dancer and marathon runner, the film highlights their determination and resilience. It features Lt Col Kumar Gaurav, 13-year-old karate champion Mehrin Rana, pastry chef Nishant Amin, toy designer Shreya Jain, dancer-actor Indu Thampy, and vegetable vendor–marathon runner Harichandran Ponnusamy, each proving diabetes doesn’t stop them from pursuing what they love.

What we think about it: The film’s strength is its focus on ordinary people living full, ambitious lives with type 1 diabetes, which gives the message real weight without leaning on celebrity presence. That said, the pacing feels a bit uniform, and a sharper narrative thread could have made the individual stories land even harder.

Nick Jonas added, “I know for myself how diabetes doesn’t have to limit you, but only when you have access to the right care, tools, and support. That’s why we’re here in India, where awareness is low and stigma remains high, to help make that possible for everyone. Through my own family, I’ve come to love India deeply, and I’m proud of the progress already underway”.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas added, “India has extraordinary people living with Type 1 diabetes, yet their stories are rarely heard. I came to understand this community more deeply through my husband Nick, and I’ve witnessed firsthand the strength and determination that so many people living with T1D carry every single day. The Beyond Type brings a few of these stories forward, and shows that with proper care and access, diabetes does not define them or limit what they can achieve.”

Seema Srivastava, director, social impact and global advocacy, Beyond Type 1, said, “At Beyond Type 1, we believe real change begins with the people closest to the work on the ground,” said Seema Srivastava, Beyond Type 1’s Director of Social Impact and Global Advocacy. “By partnering with grassroots organisations, we are helping families recognise early signs, reduce shame and misinformation, and access education, supplies and peer support.”

The campaign has been rolled out on Instagram and YouTube on 2 December.
