Maruti Suzuki has rolled out a campaign, 'The Return of a Classic', to highlight how even in the most remote parts of the country, one can still find a charging station.
The ad film breathes new life into the original story created by Rediffusion, which once drove home the idea that Maruti’s service network reaches the most forgotten corners of the map. Back then, the line was simple: even if you can’t find food or a place to sleep, one can still find a Maruti servicing outlet.
This time, the film follows a father and son in an e-Vitara, off-roading deep into a no-network zone. The son is annoyed, the father is loving the open road. When the son complains about being hungry, he spots a boy walking home and calls out to him, first with 'bro' and then with 'Kancha', the Nepali term for younger brother. The father prompts him, telling him to trust the name (as it worked in the original film showcased above). The boy says there are no hotels or restaurants around. But when asked about a charging point, he nods. The film closes with the message: no matter where one goes, they are never far from a Maruti EV charging station.
The campaign went live across social media on December 2.
What we think about it: The nostalgia play is smart, but the film leans so hard on the '90s callback that the e-Vitara feels more like a prop than the hero of a new story. The charging station reveals lands, though the setup feels a bit stretched just to make the point.
