Ahead of Christmas, The Walt Disney Company has rolled out a holiday special that brings audiences a heartwarming new tale for the festive season. Titled ‘A Disney Holiday Short: Best Christmas Ever’ the campaign blends whimsy, mischief, melancholy, and that signature emotional pull the studio has perfected over decades.
Conceptualised by adam&eveDDB, the film is directed by Academy Award winner Taika Waititi, and voiced by John Goodman.
The narrative introduces audiences to Doodle, a scribbled, unfinished creature - a product of a young girl's imagination - who shows up under the tree on Christmas morning. The child’s messy doodle was misread as a Christmas wish and that becomes the heartbeat of the film. From there, the film unfolds into a gentle, charming tale of friendship between the girl and her accidental companion, serving as a reminder of Disney’s broader holiday message for the year: “Make Someone’s Holiday Magic.”
What we think about it: The formula is familiar Disney territory, but in a season crowded with hollow sentiment, that’s not a flaw - it’s the brand playing to its strengths. What makes the film stand out is its embrace of imperfection: an unfinished, oddball protagonist in a world that is obsessed with picture-perfect imagery, thus offering a warmer, more grounded kind of magic.
The film has been released globally on social media platforms, YouTube and on Disney+.
