Flipkart has rolled out a film titled 'The Abandoned Cart' for its 'Big Billion Days' sale which goes live on 23 September.
The core thought of the sale is 'Yahaan Kuch Bhi ho Sakta Hai' (anything can happen here), and delivering that message this year is a film conceptualised by Talented.
The film shows team Flipkart get together to deliver a cart its user 'Abhishek Tripathi' had assembled 10 years ago (13 October 2015), but not checked out. The cart consists of items such as an iPhone 6, a pen-drive and a badminton racquet. They reach Tripathi's doorstep, greet him with garlands and deliver the items while leaving the man clueless about the delivery. The duo inform him that these were items from his cart 10 years ago, which he forgot to check out then. They tell him how he shouldn't procrastinate about his next purchase for 10 years because the 'Big Billion Days' sale is live.
What we think about it: The idea of delivering a cart abandoned 10 years ago is totally absurd but goes with the them of anything can happen. We also loved the bit where the badminton racquet is delivered while making a pickleball reference.
Pratik Shetty, VP - growth and marketing, Flipkart, said, “Big Billion Days is a cultural moment for India. The idea of reviving an abandoned cart was both nostalgic and fresh, something every shopper relates to, and yet no one has ever seen brought alive this way. It perfectly reflects our belief that during Big Billion Days, truly anything can happen.”
Abhishek Kumar, brand strategy, Talented, added, “The brilliance of this idea is in its simplicity. Every Indian has left something behind in their cart; we just asked: what if one of them became a legend? The characters of Joshi and Deshpande allowed us to make it larger-than-life while keeping humour intact.”
